It’s a great day, but it’s also a day that’s going to set you and your soon to be spouse back a couple hundred, thousand … hundred thousand? Weddings are expensive, below are some tips on having a wedding that is both chic and affordable.

1. Sharing is caring. If you’re getting married, you likely know a friend who is also in that hectic, wedding-planning mood of her own. Get in on the purchasing together and see if you can’t save some money by buying in bulk.
2. Plastic is fantastic. Instead of traditional floral arrangements, LaRue suggests using vintage creamers or fabric pompoms to serve as centerpieces at your tables.
3. Eclectic and chic. Forego new or rental dishes and flatware; go to a local flea market and see if you can find some cute china and dishes that will make each table setting unique and set you up perfectly for all your dishware needs in the future!
4. Linen alternatives. Instead of expensive silks, try using burlap, muslin or gingham fabrics for your tablecloths. If you cut them yourself with pinking shears double points!
5. Be a kid. Draw on your tablecloths. But only if you got paper tablecloths! They’re much less expensive than linens or fabrics, and you’ll get to engage all your guests who are taking a break from the dance floor.
6. What’s your color? Instead of numbered tables, make your tablecloths yourself and color them in a unique way. Guests can then find their tables!
7. Be unique. Traditional flowers are expensive, so going with moss, cotton, baby’s breath or herbs can be a breath of fresh air and look very modern.
8. Picnic. Prepare dinner packages with sandwiches and sides for your guests instead of paying for catering and servers.
9. Menu-free. Use chalkboards instead of individual place setting menus to let everyone know what they’ll be dining on.
10. Pick a little here. Getting everything you want isn’t possible, but getting the most important things you and your partner want are what will make your wedding special. Be picky, and know that your wedding will be just right for you and your soon-to-be spouse!
