Visitors on my Front doorstep
I have had travelers and tourists for a couple of days, my sister Karen and her husband Bob. They are visiting after an eleven month visit of South America, Australia and New Zealand, and Southeast Asia. It was a prolonged trip, plotted for over five years. A lot of us that stayed behind were a little uncertain of this long a trip, but they are expert travelers and had traveled in countless countries before this trip.
It really made it easier for everyone back home when they opted that they would run a blog while they were gone to keep us all posted on where they were. This was particularly valued when we all knew they could be in Thailand and the news was full of riots in the capital of Thailand. The good news is they were in Bali at the time and resolved to not go back via Thailand for the subsequent leg of their trip.
One of the enjoyable things about having them here is to hear first hand all the remarkable stories from the various places that they stayed at during this trip. Since they are still fresh from their journeys, many of the stories are vibrant for them still. It seems that we can’t walk anywhere without something bringing to mind a report of an adventure in Vietnam or a saunter on the beach in Bali or a spot they saw in Tasmania. It is so exciting to hear these from them, listening to the delight of their voices as they tell us about the funny guy they decided to buy food from in the sampan in the river or the monkeys that would take your hat as you strolled through the forest of Indonesia.
So I guess you could say that I have been living vicariously by way of my sister and her husband for the last eleven months. I am sort of sorry to see it end, the stories are so good. But I am grateful to get my little sister back again, all in one piece, and open for a good talk the very next time I pick up the telephone.
