Bed Bugs Atherton, Leigh and Tyldesley.
One of the most hated and misunderstood pest insect species known to science is the bed bug (Cimex lectularius). How many of us dropped off to sleep at night as children with the words of our parents in our ears “sleep tight and don’t let the bed bugs bite”?
Bed Bugs most probably started to feed on human beings at about the period we moved into caves, the bat bugs Cimex pilosellus and C pipistrella primarily fed on bats and it is probable that bat feeding species of bug evolved to feed on human beings when our ancestors started staying} in bat infested caves.
Until the invention of DDT in the early 20th century bed bugs were common unwelcome guests in most poor quality homes.
The later part of the 20th century saw pest controllers dealing with very few bed bug call outs indeed, their presence being mostly restricted to cheap holiday hotels and student lodgings etc.
Many people mistake dust mites, which cannot be seen by the unaided eye, with bed bugs which most certainly.
Adult bedbugs are reddish brown, about a few milemetres in size and swollen after a feed of human blood.
Bed bugs typically feed on a target’s blood every seven to ten days, appearing in the early hours of the morning and homing in on their target by sniffing the exhaled carbon dioxide from human breath and when nearby their target, they sense infra red heat.
Without a suitable human host to feed on they can remain in a period of dormancy for periods of up to a year or more.
Bed Bugs
The first signs of a bed bug problem are spots of blood on sheets and on the base of mattresses and many people can react badly to bed bug bites.
The early the 21st century has seen bed bug numbers multiplying everywhere on the planet, the easy availability of overseas and economic migration have both been given as reasons for the resurgence.
What is positive is that that are now making a real comeback not only in low quality housing but top class hotels, schools and even hospitals.
One London borough reports a doubling of bed bugs problems every year from 1995 to 2001.
One night away in an infested bed is all it needs, they catch a ride in your suitcases or bags. Stretford Pest control companies are also now reporting cases of transport related bed bug infestations on transport of all kinds so a simple ride to work on an infested tube or train can be enough to spread bed bugs to your own home.
They are an tricky pest to deal with as contrary to popular opinion they do not just live in beds. They infest any nook and cranny conveniently close to a sleeping human being, beds, electrical sockets, televisions, bed side telephones etc and dealing with them is both laborious and time consuming. They have even been revealed found living under the toe-nails of infirm people and in the folds of flesh on grossly over-weight people.
They are not a pest that can be tackled by an amateur and a pest control professional will almost certainly be needed.

Samsung LE26C450 HDTV
Samsung followed its award-winning LE26B450 with its latest offering, the LE26C450. The LE26C450 is a 26″, HD-ready LCD television with single-tuner picture-on-picture, vibrant color, crisp picture clarity, and easy operation. While it doesn’t offer Freeview HD, which pulls digital HD content over the terrestrial airways, it does provide standard Freeview and a full set of features that should satisfy most A/V enthusiasts.
As flat-screen LCD television prices continue to drop, monitor sizes increase. There are fewer 26″ televisions today than there were five years ago. With that said, the Samsung LE26C450 is a prominent player in the 26″ market that those seeking this television size should seriously consider.
The technical specifications are fairly standard for this size television. Screen resolution is an HD-ready 1366 x 768 at 50Hz and Samsung integrates its proprietary Wide Color Enhancer, which has a dramatic effect on color vibrancy. This color enhancement creates four times the quantity of color gradation and increases color brilliance in the blue and green spectrum, which tends to get washed out on conventional screens. The result is a 3D-like viewing experience that makes images pop from the screen.
The LE26C450 comes equipped with three HDMI ports (one on the side and two on the back) and one USB port (on the side). One component and one composite input is also provided. Audio is provided by stereo outputs at 5W a channel. An optical audio output is also provided. A single 3.5mm headphone jack is available from the rear of the television, which makes it an ideal output source for a basic sound system. A/V enthusiasts will use the optical audio output for their A/V amplifier or receiver.
One advantage of this television is intelligence that automatically sets the viewing configuration based on the connected device. Plug a Blu-ray or DVD player into one of the HDMI inputs and the television automatically switches to Cinema mode. Standard mode is still available with the quick press of a button.
In addition to auto-configuration, the LE26C450 accommodates a wide-range of picture sizes and adjustments. Select a picture mode and you’ll also be able to select a picture size and image location.
The USB port opens a world of opportunities to view a large variety of media content. Firmware updates can also be installed from a USB device plugged into the USB port. Samsung makes firmware updates available for download when new versions are available. A PC can easily be connected to the television using a DVI cable and DVI/HDMI converter.
Touch-sensitive controls are available on the lower-front side of the television. These controls adjust the channel, volume, menu, source, and on/off button.
Samsung has hit the mark with this 26″ television. In a market where 26″ televisions are decreasing in availability, the LE26C450 is a respectable option that should please those looking for a size-friendly television. It offers outstanding picture quality in its price range and a nice set of features that allow it to integrate with many devices in today’s technologically-dominant marketplace.
